The teaching of writing is an important part of Chinese teaching. The teaching of narrative writing plays an important part in Chinese teaching of junior middle school. Narrative writing is both the basic content of writing teaching and training of junior middle school and the basis for other styles of writing. The first genre that most students begin with is narration, and it’s also the most writing genre in junior period, which directly affects writing skills of junior middle school students. After a long writing practices, students’ability of thinking, analyzing problems and organization of language will improve a lot, which can not only improve their Chinese grades, but also benefit other subjects to improve the overall quality of junior middle school students.There are five Han junior middle schools in Yanji, namely, Yanji the Fourth Junior Middle School, Yanji the Sixth Junior Middle School, Yanji the Seventh Junior Middle School, Yanji the Ninth Junior Middle School and Yanji the Twelfth Junior Middle School.26teachers are teaching3090students Chinese in the five middle schools. To investigate the real teaching status, the author designed two questionnaires for both teachers and students and gave a carefully investigation by the way of interviews and listening to the teachers in the class, so as to know the professional accomplishment of the26teachers, the advantages and disadvantages of their teaching purpose, content, methods and means. And also understand the students’purpose, methods, initiative, the usual modes and content in writing narrations.The survey shows that the teaching status of narrative writing is better in Yanji Han junior middle schools. The teachers have clear teaching purpose, solid writing knowledge, rich teaching experience and the students have clear writing purpose, high enthusiasm in creating, great number of reading narrations in spare time, which achievements are worthy of recognition. But there are still some problems in teaching of narrative writing, such as the teachers’traditional teaching content, obsolete teaching and marking methods, students’monotonous writing method, less training exercise in narrative writing, which will directly affect the overall teaching quality of narrative writing of Yanji Han junior middle schools.The survey shows that the main reasons for the problems are the inherent teaching philosophy in narrative writing, less negative examples in Chinese writing materials and few practicing opportunities for students. To solve these problems, we should let Chinese teachers and students coordinate each other according to the "Chinese Course Standard of Full-time Compulsory Education". Teachers should change the traditional teaching philosophy of narrative writing, enrich writing content, build multiple modes to practice writing, try out teachers’"practicing composition" and new type of marking methods. Students should increase the narrative writing practice, create personalized narrations, learn the self-evaluation of marking own composition. This will improve the teaching quality and level of narrative writing of Yanji Han junior middle schools, and set up an effective teaching mode to practically improve students’ level of narrative writing.
