Lawrence Kohlberg’s theory of moral cognitive development has profoundinfluences on Western moral education. Based on the moral education in China’suniversities, this paper initiates a systematical and over-all analysis of this theory andoutlines its essence in order to server for the present moral practice in China.This paper introduces the theory of cognitive development Kohlberg moralideological origins of organic components, combined with the practice of moraldiscourse of university launched around three-level six-stage model of moral cognitivedevelopment, proposed for the university moral education of their actual point of view.Secondly, in the sampling survey data support, on the existence of moral education inChina’s colleges and universities through the analysis of the problem, and summarizesits reason. Finally, respectively, from the theoretical and practical operational aspects ofthe construction of university moral education innovation in China, put forwardsuggestions form the aspects as the purpose of college moral education, improvement ofthe method of moral education, construction of moral ambiance, mend of teachingpractice.This paper aims to Kohlberg’s theory of moral cognitive development research, toexplore the nature and rules of ethical and moral development, provide useful lessonsfor our moral phenomenon research and theory and practice of moral education incolleges and universities, this objective can be specific and detailed for the followingthree aspects: First, to promote better understanding of the moral theory of cognitivedevelopment system; second is to promote ethical research methods phenomenonscientific process; the third is to promote the innovation and development of moraltheory and practice.In this paper, study the national university moral issues with western moral theorythat has some new ideas on a research perspective which explore the intersection ofeducation, psychology and Chinese&Western concepts. Overstep those previous studieswhich are too concerned about the moral content and innovation of educational methods,emphasis on ideas of moral education is the foundation of moral development stagerather than a physiological age, and the standards of moral ambiance impact on themoral object.
