China’s ancient educator Confucius said: it is better to like something more than to know thatsomething; and it’s even better to enjoy the something than liking it. It is only when one likes and enjoyslearning that one can have a strong desire and enthusiasm to learn, so that one will take learning as a hobbyand can never have enough learning. Psychologists believe that the most realistic and active part of learningmotivation is cognitive interest. Interests are the mental tendency when people are engaged in certainactivities or seeking knowledges, the basic of which is the need to know or explore the truth; meanwhile, interests are also the important motivation of learning and exploring the truth. Without the practical act ofreading, one cannot feel the pleasant stimulation of learning even when one has the thought or desire toread. On the other hand, it is equally hard to have interest towards learning when one takes active practicebecause of his desire to learn but failed to make certain achievements; even if there happened to be anyinterest, it will not last long. It is only when the act of reading satisfies the urge and motivation to learn thatthe interests to learn comes into being. That satisfaction derives from two aspects: first, being praised, compensated and rewarded, which accounts for the external factors; second, obtaining inspiration andencouragement leading to a extension of mind, or gaining certain skills that is useful to oneself, becausepeople get satisfied when gaining knowledge and skills, and that is internal factor of the happening ofinterests. The most basic motivation of interests comes from the inner satisfaction. However, in the actualteaching there are a lot of problems making it difficult for the students to have interest in studying ideologyand politics, which can be specified in the following respects:1. The continuous change of the society andpeople’s values has reduced the students’ interests to learn ideology and politics, which further lowered thestatus of that course.2. The contradiction between the lagging-behind textbooks and the ever-changingsocial situation resulted in the fact that theories are far from practical reality.3. The outdated and rigidteaching method left a dull atmosphere, forcing the students to lose their interests to study.4. The teacherscan not follow the trend of the era due to their outdated teaching idea.5. The schools haven’t paid enoughattention to the course of ideology and politics. To solve the problems mentioned above, this paper discusses from two aspects how to promote students’ interests in studying the course of ideology and politics. First of all, starting from creating newteaching methods, the teacher of politics should make full use of all the factors concerned with teaching soas to create an innovative atmosphere, stimulating the students’ curiosity for and the interests in theteaching contents, which also attracts and control the students’ attention. Therefore, the teaching methodsof the ideology and politics course should seek uniqueness, meaning to derive knowledge from creation, and to win over creation. At the same time, it is necessary to apply these creative methods to the practicalteaching. The major teaching methods concerned are1. Classroom Discussion Pedagogy;2. The SituationalApproach;3. Case Study;4. Inquiry-based pedagogy;5. Heuristic Pedagogy;6. Question teaching method. This paper analyzes in detail the concepts, types and effects of the innovative teaching methods, discussesin depth how to put these teaching methods into practice in real class from the perspectives of the necessaryfactors concerned with teaching such as teaching objectives, pre-class designs, leading-ins, teaching aids, drills, and teaching conclusions, and further proposes problems that need attention. Secondly, this paperexplored the possible effective measures of teaching outside classroom, including:1.building a scientificevaluation system;2.enhancing the students’ awareness of the importance of the ideology and politicscourse;3.combining the classroom teaching with the extracurricular activities. This study tries todemonstrate clearly and comprehensively various effective ways of raising middle school students’ interestsin ideology and politics course from both the point of in-class and outside-class. It is a thorough and deepanalysis of how to apply these methods specifically, and it also mentions the problems should be paidattention when applied. Altogether this paper makes an organism out of fostering interests, implementingteaching methods and problems should be paid attention to. In al, it discusses issues found in teachingmiddle school students the course of ideology and politics. By accounting the importance of fosteringstudents’ interests this paper proposes the ways of solving the problem, and makes the readers feel theurgency and necessity of fostering interests in the course of ideology and politics, so as to provide referencefor the ideology and politics teaching in middle school.
