The Chinese Communist Party’s18th report focused on the new type of urbanization that will be the dominant power in the process of our modernization construction in the next decades. With the social and economic development, the impact of traffic on people’s social life is increasingly important.Under the background of new urbanization,this thesis is focus on the study of shanghai traffic and residential space differentiation from the angle of sociology,searching for some problems from how the city traffic impact on land use change to residential space layouts.The specific contents are comes from four aspects like traffic distribution,the density of traffic construction,transportation and transportation cost to analyze four main phenomenon between space differentiation as the community type, residential location choice, cost of living and living standards.Conclusion is that city traffic will be speed up residential space differentiation to some extents to produce series of social problems like social gap between rich and poor,social isolation and conflict.With the theory basis of social space and methods of network questionnaire survey and Statistical yearbook,it told us to boom up cities and towns under new urbanization to relief urban residential space differentiation problems in the final summary and analysis.This thesis contains four chapters.The first chapter introduces the research background,research question and related literature research from abroad and at home to provide the theoretical support of research.The second chapter makes theoretical analysis about the relationship between two theories and clarify the theoretical basis of the study from location theory and social theory.The third chapter is the core part of the paper,mainly discusses how the urban traffic impact on the residential space differentiation between rich and poor in shanghai mainly through the analysis of the relationship between the differentiation of the residential space with traffic layout, traffic network density, transportation costs and private transportation, and how the degree of relationship combined with literature data and shanghai statistical yearbook etc.The last chapter summarizes the results of above and put forward to the rational layouts of new urbanization development and living space in the future.
