Are all strokes within a character equally important in the character identification? About the question, many studies have explored. Previous studies of stroke order effect all selected college students as subjects. Despite the methods are different, they all showed that beginning strokes play a more central role in character identification than ending strokes, in other word, it has the position effect of strokes. But the difference among different subjects groups is very big, the effect that is found only in adult subjects whether is universal or not.? About the problem we are very concerned. College students’orthographic has developed perfectly, and undergraduates know well stroke order very good. So for schoolchild whose orthography development is not perfect and the knowledge of stroke order is good whether also is influenced by the position effect of stroke in the character identification, for this question we don’t know. Only first determine the stroke order effect among subjects who has different characteristics are all stable, we can further study the other influence of reading that is caused by other stroke order effect. So this research designed two experiments, the main purpose of the experiment one is to determine that the stroke order effect is general in different groups, the main purpose of the experiment two is that from the Angle of information extraction space to explore the effect of sentence reading caused by stroke order on the basis of the results of experiment one.So the experiment one based on the study of Yan et al (2011) added the Grade variable in order to discuss the position effect of stroke in character identification. The experiment is a2(Removal Type:Beginning, Ending)x3(Percentage of strokes Removed:15%,30%and50%)×3(Grade:Grade three students, Grade five students and college students) three factors mixed design of experiment. Thirty-five subjects in each grade participated in the experiment. Participants’eye movements were recorded with a SR Research Eyelink2000eye tracker. Global analyses were conducted based on measures of reading behavior across the whole sentence. The results showed that: To all subjects:(1)The damage is more serious to reading when characters with beginning strokes removed than with the ending strokes removed;(2) Compare to control condition, character with strokes removed are more difficult to identify;(3) With increased percentage of strokes removed, text with more strokes removed produced more disruption to Chinese reading. Also, there was a robust effect on Stroke removal type. The results further suggested that, the position effect of stroke is very universal. To all the people, in the character identification the stroke of beginning is more important than the stroke of ending. The experiment two use classic moving window paradigm, to further explore the influence on sentence reading caused by the stroke order effect from the angle of information extraction space. The experiment is a5(Window size: L1R1、L2R2、 L3R3、L4R4、full line)x3(Removed Type: Beginning、Ending、normal text) two factors subjects design of experiment. With reference to the results of experimental one, when the removed level was30%, the stroke order effect is the most stable. Therefore the experiment two set the30%as the percentage of strokes removed, according to the economic principle, only choose college students as subjects. Participants’eye movements were recorded with a SR Research Eyelink2000eye tracker. Global analyses were conducted based on measures of reading behavior across the whole sentence. The results showed that:(1) Stroke omission affects the perceptual span of sentence reading, the perceptual span of complete sentences is greater than the perceptual span of the sentence removed strokes.(2) Removed type affects the efficiency of sentence reading, but it doesn’t affect the perceptual span of sentence reading, showing that the sentence reading perceptual span is the same in beginning strokes removed and ending strokes removed.
