In the New Curriculum Standard, the demand for the junior school students’Englishability has increased year by year. Therefore, English reading gets more and more attention. However, many flaws appear in current reading teaching, which requires teachers to adoptpractical and effective teaching methods to help solve this problem. The author attempts toapply group teaching in junior school reading teaching, hoping to increase all the students’awareness of using reading strategies so as to improve their reading grades.Students in Class8Grade9, the experimental class, and students in another class ofthe same level, the control class, in Nantong No.3Middle School are chosen as the subjectsof the research. Before the experiment, a test on the participant’s ability of readingstrategies and a questionnaire are applied to find out the current situation of using readingstrategies. The participants are divided into three groups according to the test and thequestionnaire, and then be taken at random to have a further talk. Then a research onmulti-group teaching in reading strategies has been carried on for a whole term. The surveyand the talk about reading strategies are done after the experiment, along with thecomparison of students’ test results to further testify the advantages of using such ateaching method. According to the results of the experiment, the conclusion can be drawnas follows:1) It’s necessary to get reading strategies involved in reading class;2) It canalso help raise all the students’ reading interest.3) Multi-group teaching in readingstrategies can help improve all the students’ reading abilities as well as reading grades.Because of the number of the subjects being small and the experiment period beingshort, the multi-group reading teaching model is not perfect enough to be widelypopularized. In order to create a better environment for reading teaching, the authorstrongly suggests that teachers should make some changes in choosing teaching content, dealing with reading materials, teaching styles and teachers’ roles in reading teaching.
