The core theory of the modern education has focused on how tooptimize students’ learning strategies and help them develop the learningability for their whole life. In modern English, Phrase Verb (PV) has beenwidely used. However, the learning of PV is still a great problem to learnersand teachers in the teaching process. In order to explore the effects of themonitor strategy training on learners’ PV study, the author carried out anexperiment in her school, which based on the previous theories of themonitor strategy and the research results of PV acquisition. The aim of theresearch is to investigate the effective value of the monitor strategy used inlearning PV process in middle school and try to find out whether the trainingof the monitor strategy has the positive effect on students’ PV learning andwhether the training of monitor strategy can develop the students’ PVlearning ability.This research uses qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis toanalyze the results. By taking experiment, interview and classroomobservation, the writer trained the students in her school and then analyzedthe survey results. The students of the two classes, who are in Grade Eight inmiddle school, take part in this research. The number of the students is106.One class is chosen in random as experimental class and the other class ascontrol class. There are55students in experimental class and51students incontrol class. Before the training, pre-test has been taken in order to makesure the two classes at the same level. Then the writer carries out monitorstrategy training in the experimental class for sixteen weeks, and the controlclass still uses the traditional teaching ways with the same teachingmaterials. After the training, the writer uses SPSS.20to analyze the data.The result reveals the relationship between the monitor strategy training and PV learning that the monitor strategy can play an important key toincrease Phrase Verb learning. Following the training, interview andclassroom observation have been used to get more information in detail.The survey results based on qualitative analysis and quantitativeanalysis reveal that there are significant differences between experimentalclass and control class after they have been trained for the use of the monitorstrategy in the procedure of PV acquisition. Teachers can show the relativeknowledge of the monitor strategy and train the students to use the monitorstrategy when they learn PV. Through the relative training, the students candevelop their learning ability of vocabulary, which can also be used in theirstudy of other parts. The students’ learning PV efficiency is closely relatedto the training of the monitor strategy. The research has deep meaning in PVteaching and learning. Teachers can train students to cultivate good learninghabits. Before the training, they can make plans, monitor their learningprocess and change their learning methods according to their learning. Afterthe training, students can have conscious of learning and using PV, whichproves that monitor strategy training can largely activate learners’ PVacquisition.
