In the21st century, the viewpoint of "the science and technology are the first productive forces" has already became the universal mutual recognition by the international society. Many aspects of hunan society’s life have also formed the inseparable relations with the science and technology, social life of the bio-technology and bio-technology of social life of these two major development trends have gradually became the mainstream of science and technology development. Under this macroscopic background, the certain level of biological science quality has became one of the essential requirements in the international society. So it is very important for the middle-school students as the main undertakers of the social development and construction in the future. STS education is one kind of the new education idea which formed in the various scientific educational reforms during many countries in the recent years. It emphasizes the mutual influences during science, technology and society, emphasizes the scientific choices when the students are learning and processing questions which refer to the relations between science, technology and society. However, in our more remote and backward towns, STS education has not been widely implemented. It is an important measure to explore the implementation of STS education to improve students’scientific literacy in town schools. To explore new ways to improve students’bioscience literacy, the researcher studies STS educational theory deeply and combines with the characteristics of the town high schools and applies this theory in teaching practice and has achieved initial results.In this paper, firstly it summarizes the research status quo in our country and foreigh country and theoretical basis of STS education. It expounds the situation of STS education in high school biology teaching on these aspects of the significance of STS education, the principles of STS education, teaching objectives of STS education, the contents of STS education, STS teaching strategies and so on. The researchers then studied through the experiment method for the comparison groups, the experimental class using STS education model, the control class using traditional teaching methods, in order to explore the effect of the implementation of STS education teaching in the town high school biology teaching. At the same time, through questionnaires, the researcher studied and surveyed the attitude of town school teachers implementing STS education. Finally the paper focuses on the feasibility, problems and solutions of implementing STS education in town high schools. Teaching practice results indicate that the experimental class students are more excellent than the control class. For some strong comprehensive problems which need to solve by yourself, the experimental class students showed a clear advantage. This shows that the implementation of STS education can significantly enhance students’ understanding and ability of biological knowledge. Implementing STS education in town schools is with high feasibility. We should take full advantage of textbook contents and the unique resources of town areas to implement STS education. The teacher questionnaire survey results show that implementing STS education in town schools is facing the problem of teaching equipment, teaching hours, teaching evaluation system, teachers’ force and other aspects. We should update concepts of education, strengthen school hardware, improve the evaluation methods and teacher training as soon as possible. It has important practical significance to find effective ways to implement STS education and change biology teaching methods in the town schools.
