Study Of Family Education Of The Meishan Su Clan In Song Dynasty

The family of Su clan has a long history. Su is the grandson of the yellowemperor ZhuanXu emperor.In Tang dynasty,their ancestor Su Weidao worked as anofficial in Meizhou and one of his son stayed there. Thatis the reason why Su clanexisted in Meishan. During the300years from Tang to Song,the family of MeishanSu clan could not behaved their abilities although they were talented because of theturbulant situations. During southern and northern Song dynasties, the long-termstability,increasing economy and good policy provided excellent conditions for thedevelopment of Meishan Su clan who started developing from emperial examinations,lasted for hundreds of years and left deep marks in literature and politics of the historyof Song. Su Xun, Su Shi and Su Zhe were the most popular superstars andrepresentatives of Meishan Su clan in the literature of Song. The reason that Su clancould develop from an obscure normal clan to an household one lied in the goodfamily education. The study and wisdom of family education of Meishan Su clan hasenlightening sifnificance to the modern family education.This paper is devided into four parts to systematically study the family educationof Meishan Su clan by liturature, historical, comparative and case methods combinedwith family education, educational psycology and related methods.The first part analyzes the historical background of family education of MeishanSu clan from political support, economic guarantee and educational culture of Sichuan,so that we can gain the deep reasons of the development of good education of Su clan.The second part analyzes the aims and contents of the education of Su clan onthe basis of the understanding of the family education of Meishan Su clan in Songdynasty.The third part concludes the priciples and methods of education of Su clan: thebook and poetry is one of the most important factors to a long family; people shouldhave great ambitions and experience different tortures; different people have differentpersonality and that is why we should take different measures according to theircharacteristics; parents need to praise their kids occasionally; people should combinestrict and love. If you love deeply, everything you do is thought again and again.The last part concludes the characteristics of family education of Su clanaccording to their educational aims, contents and methods: they preferred literature; they emphasized the official examinations but it was not the onlu way to succeed forthem; not only did they just read a lot of books, but also they wanted to practice a lot;they also paid attention to the cultivation of responsibility. On the basis of analyzingcharacteristics, this paper futher reveals the enlightments for our modern familyeducation:parents should establish a correct concept of family education and thesutudents need to pursue other colorful educations; parents shoule learn togrther withkids so that they can be win-win;reading books and gaining acknowledge is equal totaking actions in life;parents can evokes the responsibility of their kids by somesuggestions.
