Research On The Main Problems And The Cultivation Of The Contemporary University Students’ National Spirit

National spirit, which embodies the vitality, the creativity and the cohesion of acountry and its peoples, is the indispensable spiritual pillar for the nation’s survivaland development, the major element for prospering the country by drawing theChinese peoples’ hearts and strength together, and, without question, a vital part of thecomprehensive national power. Xi Jinping declared, at the closing ceremony of thefirst session of the12th National People’s Congress, that the realization of ChineseDream calls for the support of Chinese spirit and that we must inherit and enrich thespirit of China, which refers to “the national spirit with patriotism as the core” and“the spirit of the time with reform and innovation as the core”.University students arethe constructers and the successors of the socialist modernization. Their state of thenational spirit is directly related to the task of finishing building moderatelyprosperous society and to the process of realizing Chinese Dream—Chinese nation’sgreat rejuvenation. At present, the contemporary university students have higherpatriotic enthusiasm integrally, identify more with the spirit of the Chinese nation, andpay much attention to the guidelines and policies enforced by the Communist Party ofChina and the country. Under the influence of various factors, however, someuniversity students’ sense of national identity has receded and their awareness ofnational security is not that strong. Such problems ought to be attached great value.The cultivation of the contemporary university students’ national spirit is not only animportant theory task but a practical topic in the ideological and political education.This thesis concludes the introduction part and another three parts:The introduction part mainly discusses the objective and significance of choosingthis topic, the status quo of the research at home and abroad, and the writing methodand the innovative points, etc.Part one briefly reveals the relative theories on the cultivation of the universitystudents’ national spirit, including the connotation, the history, the theoreticalfoundation of national spirit cultivating, and also the importance to cultivate theuniversity students’ national spirit, namely the internal demand of stirring the overall development of the college students, the need of strengthen the sense of nationalidentity of the university students, and at the same time the objective need of theenhancement of the national soft power.Part two mainly analyzes the current situation of the national spirit of thecontemporary university students. At the beginning, the active manifestation ofcontemporary university students’ national spirit and the problems are mentioned.Then, in accordance with the existing problems, the reasons are investigated andanalyzed. The conclusion is that the weakness of the power that can push thecultivation of the university students’ national spirit, the effect of the negative factorsin the process of the social development, the negative effects of the modern massmedia and the university students themselves as well.Part three is the key part of the whole thesis. It mainly discusses thecountermeasure of cultivating the national spirit of the contemporary universitystudents. The methods and the principles act as the gateway of this part. In addition, itprobes into the ways of cultivation. And at the same time effective strategies areproposed according to the successful experience of such developed countries asAmerica and Singapore.
