With the development of the society, education reform in our country theattention of many scholars and experts in education. In physical education teaching in colleges and universities is no longer just exercise the student’s physical quality, more attention to the student’s mental state, and theory of mind constantly combined with physical education teaching, and intervention to the university sports teaching, and enhance the students’ physical and psychological quality. The teaching goal is the starting point and end-result of education activity, establishment of reasonable teaching goal is the focus of the university sports teaching work. Because reasonable setting teaching targets can effectively promote students’ learning skills and achievements and improving the teaching effect.Goal setting theory pointed out that students in sports activities, including theuniversity sports teaching, tend to use different target setting, their motivation for students to participate in sports activities and to participate in sports activities will also be different. In this paper, based on the theory of goal setting, according to the training objectives and teaching plan of teaching outline of thesubject teaching target, by adopting multiple goal setting in swimming teachingand the single goal setting for students of sports motivation and the will quality contrast experimental study.Research Purpose: providing a support to the research results that goal-setting can improve the swimming performance;(2) providing a support to the research results that goal-setting can effectively stimulate student’s motivation of swimming;(3) providing a support to the research results that goal-setting can affect students’ willpower and qualities. Significance of research:(1) providing reference data to enriching the goal-setting theory;(2) cultivate student’s senseof setting goals and promote their personal growth, thus to become both physical and mental health people;(3) the research results can broadly spread and apply in the schools and communities so that can stimulate student’s motivationof swimming and promote the development of public swimming activities, increasing of physical fitness in youth. The research methods involved in this thesis are experiments, literature, questionnaire, and mathematical statistics. Besides, make an18weeks experimenta l study of teaching on2011Sports Institute of Zhengzhou University students, the subjects were divided into experimental groups (multi goal-setting groups) and control groups (single goal-setting groups), the research results are as follows:(1) The results of this study support the four assumptions made;(2) After the experiment tests, the experimental group sports motivation “internal motivation” dimension score is significantly higher than the control group,“no motivation”dimension score was significantly lower than the control group. Study results suggest that multiple target intervention can promote the uplift of the level of sports motivation, lower levels of “no motivation”;(3) After the experiment tests, the experimental group will quality of fourdimensions: self-consciousness, self-control, decisiveness, perseverance, the points are on the rise, will quality score is significantly higher than the control group. The results suggest that multiple target intervention can effectively improvethe students’ character;(4) There is a largely difference between the experimental groups and control groups in respect of swimming score, multi goal-setting groups have higherscore than single goal-setting groups, multi goal-setting can effectively improve students’ swimming performance.(5) Experimental groups have higher score than control groups in swimming skills performance. Multi goal-setting can effectively improve students’ swimming skills performance.
