The lack of Chinese students’ critical thinking ability,with relatively low capacity of independent learning, in a sense, is one of the main reason in recent years why the implementatation of quality education has been the lack of effect. The author believes that, the training of critical thinking ability is one of the important measures to break through the bottleneck of quality education in middle school.The textbook is the tool and bridge for teachers to teach and students to learn. However,the research on the function of training thinking is precious little. Proceeding from the new curriculum PEP(compulsory),this paper attempts to do a research on the function of training critical thinking with material selection, unit reading guide, exercises, and puts forword some suggestions on critical thinking training.
