At present, China is in a period of social transition. With the expansion of the gapbetween the rich and the poor, higher education has got an increasing attention, because it canmake personal mobility upward. Due to different social classes belong to different status insociety, their economic resources, power resources, and cultural resources are also different,so the children of all social classes have varying degrees of gap in enrollment opportunities,the educational process and the educational outcomes.The explorations and researches about starting point fairness issue of China highereducation have great significance, not only in the development of China’s higher educationsystem and the construction of the basic theory of the higher education, but also in thepromotion of individual development and social equity.The first chapter is the introduction: Introducing the research background, thesignificance, the status of this research, the possible innovations. And the research methods:literature reading method and comparative study.The second chapter is the theoretical origins of social stratification and higher educationfairness: explaining the theory of social stratification, summarizing the overall situation ofChina social stratification; Generalizing related theory of higher education fairness, therelationship between higher education fairness and efficiency, the development of Chinesehigher education, the expression and the issue of China higher education fairness.The third and fourth chapters take the "decomposition" research method, using the"second-class" to examine the relationship between social classes and higher educationstarting point fairness. Chapter three is mainly about the different economic classes’impact onhigher education starting point fairness; analyzing the current economic situation of Chinasocial stratification; combining with our higher education increasing tuition, funding situationof higher education; exploring the different economic classes’ impact on higher education starting point fairness. Chapter four is mainly about the different cultural classes’ impact onhigher education starting point fairness; analyzing the current cultural situation of Chinasocial stratification; exploring the different cultural classes’ impact on higher educationstarting point fairness.The fifth chapter describes the theory and practice of contemporary western countries topromote the higher education starting point fairness, introducing the main fair view, the usefulexperience which can promote the fairness in education and the student financial aid policiesand mode.The sixth chapter puts forward strategies to promote our higher education fairness. Thefirst strategy is from the level of economy to promote our higher education fairness. Thesecond is from the level of education system. The third gives advice to strengthen the legalprotection. The fourth gives advice to promote college students’ability of self-education.
