In the process of economic development, there are many problems which cannot be avoided, the population problem is one of them. For a long time, population and economic development has been a focus of attention of experts and scholars. Especially as economic less developed areas, Gansu province have not only to focus on how to look at the relationship between population and economic growth issues, but also the question of how to promote the coordinated development of the two.Under the background of sustainable development, while planning the further economic development in Gansu province, we must take into account the population status and trends of our province. This paper based on population movement in Gansu province in recent 20 years and economic growth situation of the related data. By introducing a new variable on the basis of existing research results, this paper have further studied on relationship between population change and economic growth, then we draw the relevant conclusion: Economic growth relies on a certain size of population and natural change of population not only have short-term effects, but have a long lasting effect on consumption; In the short term, economic growth scale, average wages, future development potential is Granger cause of population movements, while population migration is Granger cause of urbanization; By grey relational analysis and selecting relevant indicators of population andeconomic system, we has been obtained that the per capita gross domestic product growth of Gansu province will drive the growth of old-age dependency ratio, however, the rise in the proportion of the elderly population will decline in the gross domestic product. Talent factor has a great role in promoting economic growth. The main contents of the paper can be divided into five parts:The first part explains the purpose and significance of this paper, as well as the review of related literature, and explains the possible innovation and research ideas. The second part explains demographic changes and the related conceptual an, theoretical basis of economic growth and the theory of model. The third part describes the general situation of natural population changes, population migration, population social change as well as the economic aggregate and level of economic growth. The fourth part uses Cointegration, Granger causality test and grey relational grade analysis method for the empirical analysis from three aspects: natural population change and economic growth, population migration change and economic growth, social changes and economic growth. The fifth part bases on the former analysis, then draws conclusions and makes recommendations.
