In an ideal modern university system, executive power, academic power and student power are three basic powers, which are composed of the university internal power structure. Shared governance is a way that student takes part in university governance and it is also reflection of student power and rights. However, in reality, internal university governance presents the scene of marginalization and formalization of students’ rights(power), which are even forgotten and neglected to a certain extent. Compare with mature students’ participation governance mechanism of European and American, there are still many deficiencies in Chinese students’ participation governance mechanism. It is unfavorable for both intellectual training of Chinese universities and construction of modern university system. Students’ participation in university governance is an important issue of democratization of higher education and university governance. Moreover, it is the reality and academic problems which Chinese universities can not evade at present time. As a result, this thesis take BH University as an example and use the methods of theoretical research and case study to analyze the current situation, problems, attribution and optimization measures of students participating in university governance, which is expected to be helpful to improve college students’ participation governance mechanism.The main content of the thesis is divided into four parts:The first part explores the theoretical basis of the students participating in university governance. According to the theory of law, management, economics and education, these four theories can prove the lawfulness, rationality and reasonable of students participating in university governance.The second part analyzes the mechanism and operation of the students participating in university governance. Through the case study of BH University, the author finds that the mechanism of students participating in university governance consists of substantive elements and institutional elements. Substantive elements include the involved individual student, groups and organizations of the shared governance. Institutional elements include various laws and regulations on ensuring and stipulating students’ participation, school administration and internal rules of student organizations.The third part analyzes the existing problems and their causes of shared governance mechanism of university students. According to the case study of BH University, the author finds that the students’ participation in university governance mainly has the following problems: low willingness and lack of ability of students’ participation in university governance, the neglected dominant position and non-smooth way of the university students shared governance, non-ideal operation effect of the students’ participation mechanism, imperfection of the students’ participation mechanism regulations and etc. The main reasons include political and cultural traditions, lack of a proper legal protection, tend of university management administration, lack of awareness and ability of students’ participation and so on.Part four explores optimization strategies of the mechanism of the students participating in university governance. Optimized university students to participate in the governance mechanism should start from three aspects of social, university, students etc. Specific measures should be taken as fellow: changes education concept of the society, university and family, improve the legal regulations of the students’ participation in university governance, bring into play the effectiveness of student organizations; broaden the level and field of the students’ participation in university governance, improve the regulations of the students’ participation in university governance, participatory education students to raise students’ participation awareness and ability through carrying out education participation to the students.
