In recent years, the news which Chinese young people who choose "resigning to travel"、"walking gap year" have been one after another. Some young people choose to resign jobs, suspension, etc. to travel, others have been longing for gap year travel. The term "Gap year" has gradually been known and accepted. However, the sensitivity of domestic academic to gap year phenomenon is far behind its actual pace of development. Abroad researchers had already studied the phenomenon of gap year from the perspective of academic education, sociology, anthropology and tourism science at the beginning of the 60s of the last century. The main object of this study is our young people’s gap year travel phenomenon. Through participant observation, in-depth interviews and research methods of literature analysis to study gap year practitioners. Using individual theory as a guiding framework to work on the domestic gap year practitioners. At the same time, analysis of the process of individuation gap year practitioner groups, summary interval qualities and meaning in cultural and political life of the individual and the risk of social thinking.Framework of this paper is as follows:The first chapter introduces the significance of the topic, research background, domestic and foreign research on comparative comb gap year travel and the meaning of backpackers, individual theory, the transition ritual theory, as well as the gap year and other related concepts. The second chapter is the foreshadowing part of the study, by combing the literature and empirical material, summarizes the background which gap year phenomenon generated. The third, fourth and fifth chapters is the main part of this study. Using individualization theory as a guide to discuss the correspondence between the gap year trips with a three-stage process of individuation process. "Disembedment" as an individual of the first phase, corresponding to the gap year travel in the "departure" is an expression of an individual life politics. Subsequently, the travelling process "on the road" is corresponding to the individual’s "transition" stage, where the individual shows the characteristics of the traditional process. Finally, the "return" after the end of the interval can be interpreted as the end of the year a ritual of transition, the individual "re-embedding" to new structures and groups, completed the process of individuation. The sixth chapter is the conclusion of this study. The basis of the previous article summed up further:our young people there is a clear gap year travel phenomenon of individual characteristics, is a living political youth participation, is a real-life resistance and rebellion; at the same time, there are some social risks in gap year travel which need to be self-assumed.
