| In order to build new English teaching concep t and enrich the contents of English lessons, the new curriculum reform has been promoted to meet the needs of the New Standards of English Curriculum. Therefore, the high school English teachers as well as many educational workers are trying their best to explore the teaching methods, enrich the teaching materials and adjust the curriculum design. However, the current researches of the New Standards of English Curriculum are focused on the teaching contents such as the new words, grammar rules and many teachers ignored the importance of the lead- in. Although the time of the lead- in during the classroom teaching is limited to several minutes, the importance of the lead- in cannot be neglected. As a basic component of the New Standards of English Curriculum, lead- in plays an important role in inspiring the students’ interests, preparing for the new knowledge and improving the teaching efficiency. Based on the classroom observation, the questionnaire and the interview of the practical English classroom teaching in an ordinary senior high school, this thesis aims to study on the real situation of lead-in techniques. The main points of this thesis are focused on the methods, current problems and actual effect of lead-in process. Meanwhile, the basic concept and the infrastructure functions, as well as the related domestic and abroad research progresses are reviewed to create a better understanding of the lead- in process and the requirements of the New Standards of English Curriculum as well.The results showed that under the heavy load of too much homework and the high pressure of the college entrance examination, many high school English teachers did not pay much attention to the lead- in or often employed monotonous lead- in methods. As a result, the students are reluctant to take part in the lead-in and their interests in English study were weakened. To solve the above problems and apply the requirement of the New Standards of English Curriculum, the high school English teachers should be aware of the importance of the lead- in and use kinds of vivid lead-in methods. With the improvement of the lead- in methods, the students’ interests can be inspired and a relaxed and carefree classroom environment can be created to increase the teaching efficiency. |
