With the promotion of the new curriculum reform, the New Standards of English Curriculum requires the teachers to abandon the old teaching concepts and methods and to build new teaching and learning concepts. What the teachers adopted in the past was a structural teaching method before and they mainly paid more attention to explain grammar rules, the sentence patterns, and the contents of textbooks in detail, but less classroom interactive activities among the students. With the reform of the teaching objectives, the teaching materials, teaching methods and design of the curriculums should also be adjusted, especially the teachers'teaching concepts. Only the teachers update their teaching concepts, the curriculum reform can be a success. Many educators and teachers have begun to explore new teaching methods to meet the new requirements in the new curriculum. However, most researches focus on the improvements of the main teaching process, seldom on the techniques of effective leading-in and the inner working systems of how the teachers design and use leading-in techniques. Some teachers paid little attention to the link of leading-in in the teaching process, regarding leading-in a waste of time; and neglect the requirements in the New Standards of English Curriculum. This thesis aims to study on the existing leading-in techniques in a key senior high EFL class through the methods of observation, questionnaire and interview and two main research questions were investigated: (1) What leading-in techniques are employed by the teachers in senior high English class? And (2) Are the leading-ins effective to achieve the objectives?This paper reviewed related researches on leading-in, such as definition of leading-in and functions and relevant researches both at home and abroad and then some requirements and understandings of the New Standards of English Curriculum were presented. In addition, the leading-in is mainly to inspire interest of the students and the teachers plays an important role in stirring up their motivation, so the students'learning motivation and study on teachers were also mentioned.The results showed that the teacher often uses different techniques of leading-in in the EFL classroom and often uses the methods of reviewing the old, or leads with pictures and music which they are effective in attracting the students'interest and connecting old and new knowledge and meet the requirements in the New Standards of English Curriculum. This thesis intends to call for a good understanding of the importance of leading-in in senior high EFL classroom. In the meantime, the writer hopes it brings some enlightenment to the English teachers and also supplies some experiences and ways of class teaching for other teachers to use.
