In recent years, preschool education has attracted more and more attention, especially the "national long-term education reform and development plan(2010- 2020)" clearly put forward the program and strategic initiatives of basically popularizing pre-school education until 2020, the development of pre-school education has entered a new stage. At the same time, the society also puts forward higher requirements for the preschool teachers’ quality and ability. The vocational core competences is a multi--disciplinary and multi--major comprehensive ability no matter what career must be engaged in, and it is also an essential sustainable development capacity in one’s occupation career. The vocational core competences plays an important role in students’ employment and future career development. Under this background, it has important practical significance on studying the cultivation of vocational core competencies on the higher vocational students majoring in preschool education.This paper systematically studies the the theoretical knowledge and practical experience of vocational core competences at home and abroad. Combined with the specific situation of preschool education major in higher vocational colleges, analysizing the cultivation of vocational core competencies on the higher vocational students majoring in preschool education is not only beneficial to improve students’ employment competitiveness, but also has a profound impact on the students’ sustainable development and the all-round development.What’s more, it also accord with the development trend of higher vocational education reform and the development of human resources.At the same time, by means of students’ questionnaire and teachers’ interview, investigating and analyzing training status of vocational core competences of higher vocational students majoring in preschool education points out that the cultivation problems of vocational core competences in higher vocational students majoring in preschool education are as follows: teachers of preschool education are lack of comprehensive and systematic understanding of the vocational core competences, the students vocational core ability is relatively weak, and it needs to be improved. The analysis of the causes of the problems can be seen as follows: the goal of talent cultivation of the preschool education positioning deviation, the curriculum is not appropriately arranged, the teaching methods are not effective, the teachers’ vocational core competences is weak, the evaluation model of vocational core competences is unscientific. According to these causes of the problem, I tried to give some suggestions : The school should define the goal of talent cultivation of vocational core competences to the higher vocational students majoring in preschool education, strengthen the practice teaching, optimize the curriculum, create a campus atmosphere, change the teaching methods, strengthen the construction of teaching staff of preschool education major in higher vocational colleges, reform the evaluation mechanism and so on, which will make the cultivation of vocational core competences to the higher vocational students majoring in preschool education in an effective way.
