The ideological and political theory course of universities bears the task of systematic Marxist theory education for students, and is the main way of ideological and political education for students. The key element of smooth facilitation is students’ actively participation. Therefore, attention to students’ participation in class,analysis of factors that influences their participation behavior and create better classroom learning atmosphere and the formation of good style of study, which can make contributions to the study and growth of students. This article launches an investigation among undergraduates of one university students in Wuhan as an example.Study results as follows: the participation behaviors are influenced by 5 factors-course cognition, teaching methods, teacher’s behaviors, community culture and participation condition. Firstly, if students think the course is valuable and useful for future self-development, then the higher participation willingness to ideological and political theory course, the higher participation behavior proportion. Secondly,teaching methods have big influence in class participation behaviors, the participation behavior proportion will be higher if after school study and social practice activities are adopted. Thirdly, the greater the attraction of teacher’s instruction it is, the higher participation behavior proportion. Fourthly, regarding community culture, the less truant behaviors, the higher participation behavior proportion in ideological and political theory course. Besides, personal traits are also an important reason that influences the participation behavior, disciplines, political status, family economic status will also influence the class participation behavior of ideological and political theory course.This study proposes three political suggestions for the insufficiency of participation: First, develop the interest for studying ideological and political theory course. Second, enhance the subject consciousness of students and play a main role of students in ideological and political theory course. Third, adopt diversified teaching methods to improve the attraction of instruction.
