The ideological and political education of college students has strong relationship with the sense of mission and politics. It affects how the Party’s line, principle and policy will work in the field of higher education. In the early days of foundation, under the leadership of the Party, all national colleges carried out ideological and political education work of students for different requirements effectively. These hard works ensured the smooth construction of the Party and state. It also helps culture talents in all aspects.Hunan Normal College grew out of National Normal College, which was approved by Nanjing National Government in 1938. Since the national colleges’ adjustment in 1953, Hunan Normal College separated from Hunan University and became an independent school. It referred to the education mode of Soviet Union since it was founded and implemented the Party Central Committee’s instruction about changing old style education into new one. It also started a comprehensive education reform, including ideological and political education. Influenced by the leftism, in 1965, before the outbreak of the Culture Revolution, students’ ideological and political education work of Hunan Normal College was constantly affected by national policies and political movements, there were some problems, and the college made some mistakes and learned from them.However, it was undeniable that, after the thirteen-year development, the working mechanism of the college had been improved and the working team was constantly growing. In addition, the method of ideological and political work had grown to be maturity. Students’ socialist consciousness, Marx Lenin’s three outlooks and the Communist moral quality had been improved. The college cultivated many talents for the socialist construction, especially in the field of education in Hunan. It also provided precious experience for ideological construction at colleges.This thesis attempts to do research about ideological and political education of students in Hunan Normal College during the period of 1953-1965. According to the collected historical data, it interprets the background, development and system of students’ ideological and political education in Hunan Normal College in detail. This thesis also analyses the content, method, experience and lesson of this work. After analyzing them, this thesis makes a historical evaluation for the education work and puts forward some thinking.
