Mathematics learning can be considered as the learning of mathema-tical language and expressing ability in mathematics is a basic capacity that decides the degree of mathematical language learning. Only with excellent expressing ability in mathematics, we can make transformation among the three kinds of mathematical languages, including sign langu-age, natural language and graphic language, so that we can study mathe-matical language better.The article analyzed the importance of expressing ability in mathe-matics and introduced some concepts related to mathematical language ability. Based on the related-literatures, it pointed out the lack of fostering mathematical expressing ability and the advice aimed at these short-com-ings. On this basis, this paper put forward a new teaching mode to improve mathematical expressing ability of middle school students. In the new mode, students would make preview and finish pre-assignments. In class, they would get tested and correct homework for each other. In addition, they could discuss and exchange ideas. At last, the teacher would draw a conclusion and assign homework.On theory, the new mode aims to create a new environment so that students could study independently in the relaxing and delightful atmosphere with active attitude. It would also make mathematical know-ledge attractive. With the effect of this kind of teaching mode, students would think lucidly, speak clearly and write concisely. Meanwhile, some supplementary teaching activities were put forward in order to foster the independent exploring ability of students and mathematical expressing ability. On practice, the penman taught for Grade 7 students for half a year in Xiaotian some Middle School of Anhui according to the new mode. During the experiment period, Class A was taught in the new mode while Class B in traditional one. Two questionnaire surveys about expres-sing ability in mathematics of students were implemented before and after the experiment and some students were interviewed. Analyzing the results of the survey, we find that the students’calibre of many aspects were improved. They can not only express mathematical knowledge clearly but also can judge others objectively and respect their suggestions. Therefore, this kind of teaching mode is practicable.
