This research aimed to explore how hatha yoga practice affects college students’ emotion regulation self-efficacy and expanding effects. The expectations of this study are enhancing college students’ mental health and providing both theoretical and practical bases for popularizing yoga course.This research consists of two studies:The first study conducted a longitudinal study to exam the intermediation of emotion regulation self-efficacy between Hatha Yoga practice then made a further study on whether yoga practice can improve emotion regulation self-efficacy with controlled experimental method. The Questionnaire of Emotion Regulation and Self-efficacy was conducted before and after 8 weeks in a sample of 49 college students of Beijing (25 in experimental group,24 in control group, age= 20.98+1.45 yrs.) The result showed:after 8 weeks intervention, there’s a significant interaction between duration and type of intervention of " adjust positive emotion self-efficacy " 、" adjust frustration/misery self-efficacy" and "adjust anger/fury self-efficacy"; there’s no significant change in "experience positive emotion self-efficacy" This result supported the majority of hypothesis one.The second study (on the base of study one) conducted a cross-sectional study to exam the mediating effect emotion regulation self-efficacy between Hatha Yoga practice and college students’ coping styles. The data were collected with two survey questionnaires, The Questionnaire of College students’ Coping Style and The Questionnaire of Emotion Regulation Self-efficacy, were tested in a sample of 300 non-sports major college students(80 female yoga practitioners, age 19.69 ± 1.45 yrs). Multiple regression was employed for data treatment with SPSS 22.0. Result revealed that yoga practice has significantly predictive role on coping styles ("problem-focused coping strategies" "emotion-focused coping strategies" and "avoidance") and emotion regulation self-efficacy; It also proved the existence of mediating effect between yoga practice and coping styles ("problem-focused coping strategies", "emotion-focused coping strategies" and "avoidance").Conclusion:1) By undertaking a 8-week Hatha Yoga exercise (1 hour for each time,2 times a week), college students can effectively improve their emotion regulation self-efficacy.2) The expanding effect of Hatha Yoga practice is to reforming students’ coping style by improving their emotion regulation self-efficacy.
