The Application And Innovation Of Social Work Advocacy In Anti-domestic Violence Social Mobilization

In the past, influenced by the Chinese degraded tradition, people had the perspective of "domestic shame should not be made public". Today, it is obvious to see that people’s perspective have been changed by the influence of numerous media and social advocacy, which it was provided by both individual and organizations. Although there were countless social advocacies, the huge parts of advocacies were too simple and boring, and the content of advocacy were out-of-date and rigid. For instance, in such sensitive topic of domestic violence in China, if he methods of social advocacy are applied in a way of tradition, people may lose their interest in this specific topic. On the other side, if the methods of social advocacy are conducted in a more intensive way, people may not accept the idea easily. However, it has become a problem, that how to innovate the method of anti-domestic violence advocacy? And how to enhance participants’resonance of the advocacy issue and achieve better promoting effect?Based on the above background, the author tried to apply the elements of art therapy into the workshop of the topic about anti-domestic violence and abuse (such as mask production, film salon, etc.). Therefore, the author hoped that this unique artistic methods might enhance the participants’experience of knowing the injury and hurting in domestic violence in order to achieve better promoting effect.Author adopted the method of case study and collected data by method of participant observation, interview, and questionnaire. The research results showed that the anti-domestic violence workshop by using art therapy methods have achieved ideal advocate results: participants satisfaction reached 87.94%,86.67% of participants thought the workshop is very helpful to popularize the knowledge of domestic violence,87.61% of the participants thought there is an urgent need to carry out a similar workshop, ant they have high expectations for future similar advocacy project.The study confirmed the author’s initial expectations:as an innovation of the anti-domestic violence advocacy, using art therapy methods can enhance participants’resonance of the advocacy issue, and improve the effect of advocacy effectively. It’s worthy for the further popularization and application.Of course, this method has some disadvantages, such as the timing is not abundant, lack of professional knowledge introduction, participants were not categorized, the continuity of this project is not fully carried out, etc. These disadvantages will be perfected continuously in the later work.This thesis is consisted of five parts. The first chapter is an introduction, which it mainly elaborates the elements related to this study, also including the background, questions, meaning and the method of the research. In this part it illustrates the disadvantages of social work advocacy methods in China currently. To a great extent, the effect of advocacy has been weakened. Therefore, it is very necessary to improve the method of social work advocacy. The second chapter is literature review. The author combed the concepts, the methods and the models in a relation to family violence, art therapy and social work advocacy in the existing research in both China and abroad. According to the analysis of existing research, the author found that the few scholars have studied social work advocacy at present, so this project will be an exploration in the field. The third chapter is background, purpose, process and evaluation of the workshop, also described the process of this project, and evaluated the effect of the project through the method of questionnaire and interview. The fourth chapter is part of reflection and discussion. In this chapter, it is provided analysis of the advantage of applying the elements of art therapy into social work advocacy project, as well as the problems of this workshop. The fifth chapter is the conclusion and suggestion. Aiming at problems of the project. The author puts forward improving methods, in order to promote similar projects in the future.
