Since the Third Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, China has repeatedly underlined the improvement of integrated urban and rural development system faced with dual structures of urban and rural areas, which remain as extremely huge barriers that prevent the urbanization of China. Moreover, it is significantly obstructed by imbalanced regional growth as a result of regional transfer of rural surplus labor that is affected by remote urbanization. These flowing people provide urban development with required labor forces, creating a great fortune. Nevertheless, for the rural areas of labor output, large amount of labor losses form a shock on local social structure, causing a hollow phenomenon in these areas. Besides of constraints on the local development, this phenomenon enlarges the comprehensive gap between urban and rural areas. The first part of the paper is introduction, which describes the significance of research on rural social structural reconstruction, apart from the background of population transfer upon remote urbanization. It concludes research thoughts and frames of the paper and briefly explains the main conditions of the study areas. The second part, as the basis of theory and practice, summarizes theoretical basis of research on the hollow phenomenon and structural reconstruction in rural areas through literature review on the past studies, which focuses on rural structural reconstruction in regions of labor output. Meanwhile, it is fundamental for the summarized index system of rural structural reconstruction in the following parts, according to the case studies of rural development models both home and abroad, and also the concept definition and theoretical basis including the self-organization theory, the game theory, the system methodology and the theory of sustainable development. In the third part, it emphasizes on the research area, the effect of labor output on rural structure, to find out various changes of social structure because of mass labor output. By combining farmers’subjective attitudes with objective studies, it analyses different measures that rural regions take to confronted with social structural reconstruction. In the fourth part, it makes an analysis on reconstruction of rural social structure considering top-down and bottom-up factors. Top-down factors refer to analyzing the opportunities and challenges that new wave of returned labor forces and national macro planning processes brought to social structural reconstruction in rural areas, while involving national macro control on urban and rural development and the promotion of regional industrial relocation. However, bottom-up factors are mainly about the influences of farmers’vision and self-improvement on rural organizations ’sustainability. In the fifth part, it demonstrates the index system to evaluate the reconstruction based on the fourth part and experience of reconstructing domestic and overseas rural development modes. According to the population structure of rural areas, it assesses the sustainability of the rural social structural reconstruction. In the last part, it makes a conclusion of the research and some limitations of the paper currently.
