The sense of language is becoming more and more important in the new curriculum standards of Chinese. However, the front-line teaching of language sense has not got the high recognition all the time. The line of language sense teaching and Chinese knowledge teaching is becoming more and more vague under the background of exam-oriented system, which results in the standstill of the language sense teaching in the Chinese classroom. Life essays, from the view of writing about daily life, validly break the limitations in the language sense training, which makes language sense teaching expand from classroom to the real life, from how to teach for teachers to how to learn for students, from emphasizing reading rather than writing to valuing both, from emphasizing the development of quantitative accumulation only to giving attention to qualitative creation of sense of language.The implementation of the positive value and the practical significance of life essays for the development of students’ language sense depends on the fit between life essay itself having the typical characteristics and the necessary condition of language sense development; on the other hand, it relies on the language environment, which belongs to life essays and language sense. To testify these two aspects, it is necessary to discuss in detail from the object, the essence, levels and categories of the language sense and the cultivation of the language sense.The general value of life essays lies in promoting the accumulation and consolidation of the common sense and the art of language sense; The special value of life essays is to promote students to generate the creative language sense; The practical significance and values of life essays are unified with its values proved in practice. In short, it must be declared urgently that life essays have positive values and practical significance in the development of students’ sense of language. Only when Chinese teachers in middle schools fully realize the important value of life essays in the development of students’ language sense and understand its feasibility in practice, can they actively seek for the qualitative conversion of language sense teaching from the classroom training to life experiences.
