Study On Application Of Group Social Work In Pension Institution

In Chinese traditional society, family providing for the aged is the most common, and important way. At present, along with transformation of society and people’s retirement concepts, institutional pension gradually becomes a new pattern for the aged. More and more people prefer to choose it and many problems of institutional pension also increase. Obviously, the traditional life care, health care and entertainment has been unable to meet the growing needs of elders’spiritual satisfaction. The intervention of social work in pension institutions, which can help elders achieve self-value and provide more considerate, comprehensive, and professional service, is actually an important subject in social work research. As group work is one of the three major methods in social work intervention, this paper mainly uses it to explore the way of intervention in pension institution.The paper takes Fuzhou Wen’ao apartment for the old as the research object, then after establishing archives, field observing, open interviewing for 42 elders and understanding the situation from staff and management, it found that three great needs among elderly people:social communication, psychological support and participation in social activities. Based on the research and the literature related to it, combining strength perspective and theory of needs, the paper found that carrying out the intervention of social work, especially carrying out the intervention of group work in Wen’ao apartment is necessary and possible. In order to prove it, "Health and wellness, you and me", the activities of group social work are designed. The researcher makes evaluation and reflection from three aspects including social workers, group members and the staff of institution in accordance with introspection forms, process record forms, feedback forms, colleagues’experience sharing and staff’s feedback, and think that group work is suitable to develop in pension institution, it can make pension institution services professional.The research is divided into five parts. The first part is introduction, which introduces the background, the purpose and significance of research and makes a literature review of pension institution services and the application of social work in pension institution. The second part introduces the core concept, the research theory, research methods, research framework and the general situation of Wen’ao apartment. The third part focuses on the design of activities and grasps current situation and the requirement of the Wen’ao apartments for the elderly through establishment of archives, on-the-spot observation and open interview. The fourth part introduces the implementation process of group activities and makes evaluation and reflection from three aspects including group social workers, group members and the staff of institution The fifth part mainly The fifth part is the summary, through the study conclude that the institution agency has the necessity and feasibility of group work, In favor of pension institutions comprehensive and professional service. The last part makes a review of research and puts forward some suggestions according to defects.
