The Group Social Work Intervention In Elderly Immigrants' Community Adaption

With China's entry into the aging society,more and more elderlies have followed their children to cities.These elderlies with the rural household register but living in cities with their children are also known as “migrant elderlies”.As a special group,migrant elderlies have gained growing attention from society.Due to changes of the living environment,a majority of migrant elderlies have,more or less,problems in getting adapted to community life.Then,how to help migrant elderlies get integrated in community life,make them live better in cities,has been an issue to concern.The author makes use of the internship opportunity in Y Social Work Service Center to organize group work intervention for migrant elderlies in Home-based Old-age Care Center of H Community.The author first makes use of the questionnaire survey and semi-structured interview to collect migrant elderlies' data.Following that,the dilemmas facing elderlies' adaption to community life and their needs are analyzed.Meanwhile,the group work is carried out for migrant elderlies in Home-based Old-age Care Center of H Community at an attempt to facilitate their familiarity with the community environment and integration into the community life.Based on the activity concept and theory of continual socialization,this paper combines migrant elderlies,home-based old-age care center in the community and professional social work to not only explore a new method which can help migrant elderlies quickly get adapted to community life,but also introduce professional social work to home-based old-age care services in China.This can,in addition to promoting specialization of home-based old-age care in China,also provide inspirations for local innovation of social work.Research shows that to integrate migrant elderlies in the home-based old-age care service center can effectively promote adaption of migrant elderlies to the community environment and life.As an open old-age care site,Home-based Old-age Care Center of H Community is equipped with complete environmental facilities,which are very helpful to migrant elderlies' familiarity with the community environment and adaption to community life.Meanwhile,it is hoped that research findings of this paper can provide more appropriate services for elderlies.
