The family is the first unit of socialization that a person contacts after he is born. Family education begins at birth, and finishes at death. The development of character and formation of values of a person are closely related to whose family moral education. Cai Yuanpei once said: “Family is the first school to people. A person’s character probably embryos in family, that is so-called original aim.” Family morality is an important guarantee to harmony among family members. It is the significant sign of Chinese characteristic socialism spiritual civilization construction.At present, China is in a transitional period of social transform, ethics and values are facing many challenges, the status quo of family education is not optimistic. On February 17, 2015, The general secretary of China, Xi Jinping’s important speech at the Chinese New Year gathering was focus on talking about the importance of family education, he asked that focus on the family-oriented, tutoring and family traditions. The family is the basic cell state to the society and family building. Family building is a foundation stone to nation-building and society-building, is an important guarantee for social harmony and stable development. At present, the Chinese family education is in weak link of the educational system and the weakening of family moral education is closely watched.The world attaches great importance to the family moral education of children now. The United States is a world powerful country with a strong comprehensive national strength, and the levels of development including political, economic, cultural, science and technology, education and other undertakings are among the best in the world. All though there is a huge difference in the historical background, values, social environment and other aspects between China and the United States, however, in the family moral education, there are a lot of content that can communicate with each other and learn from each other. This paper adopted literature research, comparative studies and investigate research to compare similarities and differences between Chinese and American family education, and analysis the path to improve China family education.This paper includes the following contents. The first part is introduction. Based on the background and purpose, it introduces theoretical and practical value of Chinese and American families comparative study of moral education. It elaborates on the situation of domestic and foreign research on family moral education. The second part, the theory expounded China and the US family education, which detailing explain the meaning of family, family education and family moral education, based on the clarity concept and combined with the core issues studied in this paper, it elaborated on the basis of family moral education theory including round development theory, barrel theory, pragmatism moral education theory and recessive education theory, separately introduced the cultural background of Chinese and American Family Education, which laid the foundation for research dissertation. The third part analyzes current situation of Chinese and American family’s moral rducation. Respectively illustrated the Chinese and American educational system environment analyzed the current situation of these two countries and summarized the different effects of their family education. The fourth part analyzes the different effects of moral education between Chinese and American families. From the objectives, content, style these three aspects, comparative analyzed the similarities and differences between China and the US family education, analyzed their advantages and disadvantages. The fifth part illustrates the experience of American family education and enlightenment to China. By comparison, we learns the advanced experience of the United States about family moral education and abosorbs its advantages for the improvement of Chinese family moral education.
