There is a very obvious characteristic of the urban and rural dual economic structure of our country. The existence of Urban and rural dual economic structure in the formation and development of China is objective necessary. So this structure will exist for a long time and also will be the deep root of all kinds of contradictions in our country’s current social life. Our country is positive bridging the gap between the urban and rural and obtained a certain result, but the urban and rural dual system has not been fundamentally changed, the gap between urban and rural development still exist. After graduating from college students took to the society, the important way to implement career development is contributing specific knowledge to society, so is the social and economic status. At present, the dual structure between Chinese cities and countryside has not been completely changed so one’s urban and rural identity may play the most important role in affecting individual career achievements. Therefore, the thesis will explore whether the urban and rural backgrounds will affect the career accomplishment of the on-job graduated students’career achievements, and if we can draw the correlation, how the path of the influence generated? On the contrary, if there is no effect, is there a different mechanism of the influence of rural and urban background on-the-job graduate career accomplishments? To solve the above mentioned problems, this paper is based on the relevant research results to study 1014 graduates who were employed during the year 2003-2013 from four different Chinese cities. Under the guidance of the career development theory, this study exploits interactive analysis, multiple regression analysis and the mean comparison to explore the influence of rural and urban background on the on-job graduated students’career achievements. The results indicate that:1.There is no significant correlative relationship between the urban and rural backgrounds and professional income.2.The urban and rural backgrounds has no obvious effect on promotion.3.The urban and rural backgrounds has no obvious effect on professional ability.4.There is no significant correlative relationship between the urban and rural backgrounds and the occupational adjustment.5.Paths that influence the career accomplishments of the urban and rural the on-job graduated students are quite different. If entering the workforce upon graduation is set as the boundary of the university students’ career life cycle, in a scene, the resources they accumulate at school along with the financial and societal resources they obtain from their family can be regarded as the "pre-service capital"; and the nature of company along with the human capital and social capital accumulation upon entering the workforce can be regarded as the "after sevice capital". The study shows that the professional achievements of the urban on-job graduated students highly influenced by the "pre-service capital", while the career achievements of the rural on-job graduated students highly influenced by the "after service capital". Therefore, although many scholars got the result that the newly hired college graduates from town have an advantage over rural university graduates. But according to this study in the subsequent career development in the process, this advantage for rural background in-service graduates has gradually cut back by the accumulation of "after service capital".Through the discussion by the empirical research, a conclusion can be reached that the Chinese social mobility mechanisms get more fair and reasonable. This paper brings up some countermeasures and suggestions as follow:1.To create fair talent growth mechanism by The government; 2.employers must do some human resources development by differentiation to these different working backgrounds on both the urban and rural college students; 3.Colleges and universities need to carry out differentiation strategy in career planning guidance and work practice opportunities to these different working backgrounds on both the urban and rural college students; 4.Improve the understanding and planning of their personal role in career. However, there is still some insufficiency in generating the research and some room for improvement in the research which should be explored in further study.
