Social Work Intervention To Families Of Children With Autism

From a perspective of the intervention of the social work, this study is to analyze the social support situation to the children with autism and their families through an investigation to the problems and needs faced to the children with autism of Xinzhi in Changchun City and to explore the problems of the medical relief and service delivery in the process of the rehabilitation of the children with autism. On this basis, a further study will be continued, include what strategy should be taken in social work, how to intervene the service process, how to carry out specific service, what good experience and shortcoming existed in the concrete practice course. The constructive ideas and suggestions centered on these problems will be put forward.Studies show that the autistic children families are heavy-burdened because of the heavy economic burden, tremendous need of caring, negative emotional effect and enormous mental stress. Thus, those families are in bad need of the support and help from various aspects to meet the requirements of solving the problem of economic embarrassment and care and education. At present, the social support network of the autistic children families have many problems and badly need the intervention and interference. Surveys show that the formal/informal social support system aiming at the autistic children families is deficient, dispersive and unsystematic. The welfare supports from the government are often included into the social security system of the disabled, which caused a lot of inconvenience and obstacle. The supports from the medical rehabilitation institutions to the autistic children families also exists soft spot. The "quality" and "quantity" of the service supply cannot meet the need of the autistic children and their families. The specialization of the service personnel and the institutionalization of the service process are far from enough. Many service items become nominal furnishings and most autistic children and their families have not enjoyed the outcome of these social supports. For the moment, the unofficial support networks centered on the autistic children families are obviously of great importance. However, they are in short of the efficient conformity and very superficial. Aiming at these problems, this study advances some suggestions and countermeasures.
