Since the 1980 s, the researchers on language teaching have explored a new way of language teaching—Task-based Language Teaching. In a long term, some teachers and some researchers in language teaching agree on an idea. That’s to say, task-based language teaching has played an important part in class, which has a significant influence on English teaching methods and curriculum design. National English Curriculum Standards supports the idea on TBLT, meanwhile, it requests that students’ ability to use language should be improved in the process.Writing is an effective way to communicate. Writings in mother tongue and the second language are both challenging. The process of learning a language is closely connected with writing. Because writing can not only strengthen the knowledge people learned, but also act as a communicative way. Writing can help examine students’ use of syntactic structures and lexis and promote the pragmatic abilities, which improve the learning of target language.In China, English writing teaching is not successful. Although many English teachers make great efforts, the students’ writing ability has still not reached what was expected. There are really some problems in English writing, especially the problems in Senior school English writing. Therefore, how to improve Senior school English writing becomes a focus to us.The paper, on the basis of the experiment, focuses on TBLT in Senior school English writing, hoping to find a way to efficiently improve students’ interest and ability in writing. The paper is aimed at 120 senior students in No. 1 Senior School of No.1 Machinery School in Baotou, as experiments subjects. The process lasts four months. According to data analys is and comparison between controlled class and experimental class, the experiment results show that TBLT is effective not only in the transformation of learning and teaching, but also in the improvement of senior students’ English writing ability. That’s to say, TBLT is an effective way to motivate students ’ interest and writing profic iency, which offers students a real language environment, where students can actively partic ipate in class activities. From these aspects, TBLT can be applied to teaching practice, and further development.The paper consists of five chapters. Chapter One gives a brief introduction, describing the purpose and the significance of the present study, the situation of English writing teaching in senior school and the basic structure of the study. Chapter Two introduces some relevant literature review, including the definitions of TBLT, three stages of the application of TBLT. This chapter also shows relevant researches on TBLT at home and abroad, and its theoretical basis. In Chapter Three, The author proposes a task design in English writing teaching to illustrate how to apply TBLT to English writing teaching. In order to examine the effect of TBLT in English writing teaching, the author makes an experiment. This is the main body of the study. It shows task design in writing teaching, tells the hypothesis, the methodology and the procedures. Chapter Four shows the data collection and analys is from the pre-test and post-test, and relevant questionnaires. After the experiment and the data analys is, the author gains more findings and teaching implications, which are introduced in Chapter Five. Meanwhile, suggestions for further study are also shown in this part.
