With the advent of the economic globalization, English,as a language communication tool, is frequently used in the fields of economy,culture etc. It is necessary to cultivate persons who not only have strong English basis but also qualify the listening and oral communicative skills. Junior high school is a critical period for students to further study and improves the listening and speaking abilities. However, the traditional education pays more attention to the teaching of English knowledge than the cultivation of listening and speaking competence, which greatly lag behind the social development. Therefore, the research about the application of situational teaching to the training of listening and speaking in junior school possesses practical significance. The innovation of this research is that the present studies on the situational language teaching mostly concentrate on the primary stage while this thesis focuses on the junior school students. It aims to put forward some specific methods whose feasibilities will be verified by experiments and provide reference for the spread of the situational teaching in the listening and speaking classes of junior schools.This thesis includes research questions, research subjects, research tools, etc. The research questions include:(1) the domestic and foreign theories and researches on the situational teaching.(2) Whether the application of the situational teaching to the listening and speaking class in junior schools can improve students’ interest in learning English.(3) What are the practical effects of the application of the situational teaching to the listening and speaking class in junior school on students’ listening and speaking abilities? This study takes 108 students from two classes of Grade Seven as the research subjects. At first, the author will adopt the questionnaire to investigate students’ interest in learning English. And at the end of the experiment, the data about the interest in learning English will be collected again. Then the situational teaching in the listening and speaking class will be implemented for a semester. After that, the relevant data will be collected and analyzed. Finally, taking students’ listening and speaking scores as the academic achievements, the author will describe and analyze all quantitative research data using SPSS16.0, test the independent samples and make the relative analysis.The results show that the in the experimental class, students’ interest in learning English has been improved significantly. Under the guidance of teachers, students can study more actively which changes the passive learning state to a large extent, makes the classroom be full of vitality and improves students’ listening and speaking abilities greatly. The English tests prove that students in the experimental class have greater changes than those in the controlled class in terms of listening and speaking competence. The effect of the listening and speaking training is significant.
