The listening and speaking ability is an important part of English teaching which can not be ignored. But at present in our country teachers in high schools put particular stress on grammar learning and despise the listening and speaking ability. This situation has been existed for a long time and led to a problem that high school English teachers ignore the research which could promote the students’ English listening ability and the exploration of the learning methods in listening and speaking teaching in high schools.English movies are played in the native English, idioms and authentic language environment, which also have the advantage of the rich cultural connotation. English original movies, being as a kind of intuitive images and vivid teaching methods, are becoming more and more popular. If the English original films are used in English teaching in high schools, they can make the students’ English listening and speaking skills improved in a real language environment. The reasons are summarized as follows:(1) Introducing the original movies into English classrooms is not difficult in the current teaching conditions. The equipment is available in every classroom, besides, English original movies are easy to be obtained from the internet.(2) The English films could break the bondage of the present teaching methods and be more able to arouse the students’ interest in English listening and speaking.There are some studies in putting English original films into the English teaching at home and abroad, but the main direction is the cross-cultural communication or the English original movies in the college English teaching. There are a few researches in view of the application of English original movies to improve the high school students’ skills in English listening and speaking. The purpose of this paper is to prove that putting English original movies properly in high schools English listening and speaking teaching plays an important and useful role in promoting high school students’ skills in English listening and speaking.The main content of this paper includes:(1) The theory reasons of English original movies can be combined with the high schools English teaching.(2)The application of the English original films in high schools English teaching.(3) The investigation and the analysis of the improvement. In the paper, the writer selected the films with principles that are from easy to difficult, from shallow to deep and be close to the real life.By using the questionnaire survey and doing classroom practice, the writer finally drew the fallowing conclusions:(1) It can achieve the teaching goals in the high school English listening teaching in a particular atmosphere with English original movies.(2) The English original movies inspired high school students’ interest in English listening and speaking.(3) It is effective to promote the students’ skills in listening and speaking by applying the original movies in the English teaching.This thesis is divided into five parts:(1) The research background and purpose.(2) The theoretical basis.(3) Research methods, the feasibility and necessity analysis.(4) Do an experiment and a classroom practice.(5) Summarize the above research and make a conclusion.
