Nowadays the students engagement in classroom teaching is advocated at domestic and overseas.We should value the students’ dominant positions and pay attention to the cultivation of students’ learning methods and learning habits,We should also appeal the teachers to teach students not only knowledge but also how to use the new way of learning. Under the guidance of the concept of basic education curriculum reform,the cultivation and development of students’ initiative and participation has become more and more important.The involvement of students in the classroom activities often determines the quality of their learning, only engage in classroom teaching, can students learning to be more efficient,can reflect the dominant position, If the students lack of engage in the classroom teaching,can teaching will become meaningless, like water without a source.This paper based on the perspective of English subject, takes a district of Shantou City elementary school students as the research object, through the literature analysis, questionnaire, interview and classroom observation method, the investigation of students engage in the current situation in primary school English teaching,and then find out the problems in the existing primary school English classroom, and discuss the countermeasures to promote the students to participate in classroom teaching.This paper mainly includes six parts: the first part is to define the relevant concepts of students’ engagement, and collect relevant literature on the students engagement of classroom teaching at domestic and overseas, on this basis, review the relevant research at domestic and overseas, and then describes the research design. The second part is the analysis of the status of primary school students engage in the English classroom; the third part summarizes the current problems existing in the primary school English classroom; through the survey,I found the students engagement in the classroom teaching existing the following problems: less time for students to engaged;students engaged in the existence of negative emotion experience;unequal opportunities for students to engaged; students in a passive position and ineffective. The fourth part is the analysis of the causes of the problem. The main reason is: Teachers take away the time for students to engaged; teaching activities cannot catch the students needs, cause the students lack the motivation to participate;classroom management confusion causes the student engagement inequality of opportunity;limitation of the relationship between teachers and students cause the students lack of engagement of initiative; the limitations of teachers’ teaching methods and students’ cognitive level causes the student bad effects when participation. the five part discuss the countermeasures to promote the students engagement in classroom teaching.Such as:the awareness of students’ engagement, the time of students’ engagement, the motivation of students’ engagement, the equal opportunity of students’ engagement, and the ways of enriching the students’ engagement. The sixth part is the summary of the research of this thesis.
