With the growing scale of colleges and universities,there has some problems in the internal management system.such as the bad administrative efficiency, fortified disciplines and serious government.In order to promote the discipline development and Innovative talents, a series of measures for the reform of internal management system have implemented, The reform of faculty is one of the method. Through dealing the existing relationships between the faculty and college, making a reasonable right distribution of academic, administrative and political, to achieve the University’s goal of knowledge production. Some domestic colleges and universities have carried out the reform,such as Peking University and Wuhan university,then more and more university joined it.In the backdrop of the division system reform, this study based on the management span and the knowledge production mode theory, using the literature method, text analysis method, case interview method to analysis the present situation and problems in the faculty reform.Besides the introduction and conclusion, this study mainly divided into four parts:The first chapter is the theoretical foundation. In order to build a nice organization structure and achieve the purpose of the knowledge production. This part based on the management span theory, organization flattening theory and knowledge production mode theory, thinking about the theortical value of faculty reform。The second chapter is summarize the texts about the faculty reform in 24 university, based on the faculty orientation, operating system, functions and Compound talents cultivation system, build the system analysis. through the analysis of the situation to conclude the existing problems:operating mechanism is not smooth and the academic function is not well. The problem in operating mechanism is the relationship between university faculty and college was not vivid,the faculty has not formed a interior scientific system. Because of administ-rative and government intervention, the goal of talent cultivation, scientific research and social service has not realized yet.The third chapter is investigate the faculty of Wuhan University,they reform very early, faculty of medicine has a mature operation mechanism.Through investigating the operation and function of Wuhan university will contribute to the countermeasures.In the fourth part,on the basis of the theory research, text analysis and case interview,the research will putting forward some suggestions from three aspects:university,faculty and colleges.
