The pupils’ reading target has been remodified by the 2011 version of Compulsory Education Chinese Course Standard in the third and fourth learning stage. This thesis has promoted the pupils’ reading target of the non-continuous texts based on the experimental draft. This thesis has conducted a questionnaire survey to the pupils’ reading ability of the non-continuous texts in high section(Fifth and Sixth Grade) in S block. 310 students and 15 teachers have taken part in the survey.According to the analysis of the survey, this thesis comes to the conclusion that, however the students lack the effective guidance of reading strategies in Chinese classes, they still have strong interest in the reading of the non-continuous texts. Secondly, it is generally believed among the students, without proper reading methods, that the reading eases of the non-continuous texts are at common level. Thirdly, though the students are good at fetching information from the non-continuous texts, they are still weak in the abilities of comparative inference, interpretation and evaluation. Besides that, the teachers’ understanding of the language is based on their experience which results in the lack of specific means of reading.Based on the survey and the research status of teaching the non-continuous texts in China. This thesis put forward the proposal in three ways: choosing the suitable reading materials; making the students’ reading ability clear; developing the specific teaching means of reading non-continuous texts.
