Geography education in High school aims at cultivating necessary geographic qualities for citizens in the future, which include geography knowledge, geography ability, geography consciousness and geography emotion, etc. This requires geography teachers to merge the geography phenomenon from students’actual life and social events in the teaching process, so that students can study by cooperating and exploring. The STS education is based on local, national or global social problems related to the science and technology to design teaching, which can make students become interested in or curious of these social problems related to the science and technology. Then they are able to seek solutions with scientific concepts, scientific attitude and scientific process. Then the solutions will be applied to the social issues decision-making in the future. Therefore, the STS education plays an important role in geography teaching to improve the students’ geographic qualities. But the study about the combination of the geography education and the STS education is rare. So many geography teachers are unfamiliar with the STS education, which results in the current situation that geography teaching based on STS education is not optimistic. This study aims at putting forward some high school geography teaching strategies based on STS education, so that we can enrich and perfect the theory system. The research methods used in this paper include literature research, questionnaire survey and classroom observation. The research mainly includes the following aspects: First of all, the author acknowledges the research progress by reading the related literatures in this field. Then the author explains and defines the concepts of STS education and teaching strategy deeply. Finally, the author finds the theory evidence and practical basis related to this research. In order to know the current teaching situation about the STS education, the author designs a questionnaire to survey this issue. Results show that teachers are not familiar with the STS education, but most of them consider its value in human geography teaching. However, because of the limited class hour, and teachers’limited consideration, the actual operation situation is not optimistic, which mainly shows in following aspects. Firstly, the preparation is insufficient when teachers permeate STS education into the teaching. Secondly, most teachers only use single permeation forms and methods, such as providing students the background materials, or giving students instruction in the teaching process. Thirdly, the evaluation lacks proper approach, even no evaluation or simple evaluation for permeation effects. This result is concordant with the author’s information which obtained from the classroom observation.According to the characteristics of the geography teaching and the STS education, this study summarizes some principles based on the STS education in geography teaching. And according to the survey results, the author proposes some geography teaching strategies based on STS education under the guidance of these principles, from the angle of the teaching process, which includes teaching preparation, teaching implement, and teaching evaluation. Teaching preparation strategies include:digging teaching materials about the STS education, arranging teaching plan about the STS education, and setting teaching goals about the STS education. Teaching implementation strategies include:broadening permeation way inside and outside of the classroom; enriching permeation methods through adding theme activities; implementing crossed permeation as much as possible; organizing contents horizontally by contacting with other disciplines. Teaching evaluation strategies include:conducting subject-homework evaluation; attaching great importance to situation-simulating evaluation. At the end of this paper, the author designs two cases according to the teaching strategies proposed before.
