Biology is an abstract and complex subject which is very theoretical, practical and social. Therefore, there is too much difficulty in the biological teaching process. Multimedia technology has a unique advantage in biological teaching for it puts pictures, videos, sounds, text and other elements into one set, which can help students understand and master the biological knowledge easily. Currently, multimedia technology has been widely applied in the field of teaching. Multimedia teaching has become an important teaching tool in Middle School biology teaching, especially in Senior High School biology teaching for its intuitive and interest. However, there are still some issues existing in the broad multi-media application in Middle School teaching, which need to be discussed and reflected. Therefore, how to make multimedia technology a better tool to assist high school biology teaching is becoming a very pressing issue.Firstly, this thesis discusses the related concepts, theoretical foundation, advantages and principles of the multimedia teaching; it also researches the studies of multimedia teaching in China and abroad. Secondly, through the survey of high school biology teachers and students, the thesis analysis the existing problems in the High School’s biology teaching and the reasons of these problems, and combined with related theory, puts forward the corresponding improvement strategy. In the end, the thesis illustrates the necessity of the application of multimedia technology in high school biology teaching with specific teaching cases, and points out that the multimedia technology should be combined with traditional teaching means, in order to achieve the effect of complementary advantages.Through the whole research of this thesis, it can be concluded that multimedia teaching has obvious superiority, it can stimulate students’ learning enthusiasm and initiative, it can also improve the students’ learning ability and thinking ability. At the same time, the most optimization teaching effect can only come from combining multimedia teaching and traditional teaching together and promote their advantages together.
