Rejection Sensitivity Of High And Low Social Class:Difference And Mechanism

Social exclusion problem initially draws the eyes of sociologist, it is expanded from the research of poverty and social vulnerable groups. Now it is a new trend to study the social vulnerable groups. In psychology, the relationship between social class and social rejection sensitivity has attracted the interest of many researches. The foreign researchers have found that, compared with the high social class, low social class individuals respond to social rejection more sensitivity. Based on this, this research further discussed that, under background of Chinese culture, whether the influence of the social class to rejection sensitivity is same, and the influence by which psychological factors play a role.Based on questionnaire investigation method, study 1 collected 200 effective data from three different universities students in WuHan. The data analysis results show that, objective social class can significant negative predictive rejection sensitivity. Lower social class tended to rejection more sensitivity.Same to studyl, based on questionnaire investigation method, study 2 collected 262 effective data from seven different universities students in WuHan. In this study, social support was introduced to the questionnaire, to explore whether it plays a mediating role in the relationship between social class and rejection sensitivity. Hierarchical regression analysis results show that social support plays partial mediating role in the relationship between social class and rejection sensitivity. The lower social class get less social support, and therefore respond more sensitive to social rejection.Within study 3, we adopted situational experiment method, introducing experience of refused.The study recruited 62 high and low social class as the subjects, randomly divided into two groups. Through different manipulation, allowing part subjects in refused situation, another part subjects in accepted situation. The result shows that, the experience of refused plays a significant moderate role. In the situation of refused, rejection sensitivity of low social class is higher than high social class, whereas in situation of accepted, rejection sensitivity of low social class and high class is not significant. The result is further study the psychological mechanism of the rejection difference between social class, and it provides some thoughts for society governance.
