| As the old saying goes, "Filial piety is the most important of all virtues and also the essence of all behaviors". Filial piety is one of traditional Chinese virtues and an important part of traditional Chinese culture. It is the basic conduct of undergraduates and the important character each of us should have. Traditional Chinese filial piety is abundant in meaning:the first is that everyone should support and treat parents with respect; secondly, everyone should pledge loyalty to parents and shoulder the social responsibility; the supreme meaning is to make contributions to the society and bring honor to the family name. After discarding the dross and selecting the essence, modern filial piety should include:Contents like supporting and respecting elders, pursuing self-conducting and self-cultivation, being sympathetic and grateful, and dedicating oneself to the society, which are all based on equal human dignity. At present, China is standing in a bran-new era when urbanization speeds up continuously and opening-up strengthens greatly, bringing a steady flow of foreign thoughts and cultures. In addition, as China focuses on exam-oriented education and improper family education methods are common nowadays, there are unsatisfactory facts on the inheritance of traditional Chinese filial piety by adolescents and the construction of modern filial piety. Filial piety is an outstanding traditional culture in China, but it is neglected by the public. Based on the traditional culture of filial piety, this paper discusses the deficiency of filial piety among adolescents, finds out potential problems and puts forward feasible suggestions and solutions.This paper can be divided into four sections:The first section:Adolescents cannot live healthily without the realistic function of "filial piety". This section mainly makes through explanations about the significance and conception of filial piety, finds out realistic characteristics and essence of modern filial piety, and points out that adolescents cannot live healthily without the realistic function of "filial piety"The second section:Performance of adolescents’ deficiency of filial piety. By listing related cases, this section elaborates adolescents’ deficiency of filial piety, which is mainly reflected as weak awareness of filial piety, disrespect for parents, misunderstanding upon parents, betrayal of parents’ expectation, lack of responsibility, and being self-centered. This section also analyzes those behaviors. And then elaborates the harms of adolescents’ deficiency of filial piety. As adolescents is the important part of the society, their deficiency of filial piety will certainly bring about many negative influences, or even harms to the society.The third section:The real causes of severe deficiency of filial piety among adolescents. The former sections deals with the deficiency of filial piety among adolescents, and this section discuss this phenomenon in four aspects:1) Individual. The deficiency of filial piety among adolescents is mainly caused by personal mental stress and weak personal cultivation.2) Family. Adolescents rarely put the concept of filial piety into practices. There are many flaws in the way parents "love" their children, such as "weighing wisdom over virtues", lack of personal instruction and spoiling the children. 3) School. Schools seldom conduct education of filial piety that it is just an "inessential mission" and schools attach little importance to the publication and education of filial piety.4) Society. The implementation of filial piety among adolescents is influenced by many factors, such as variation of adolescents’ value orientation, impacts from negative news, severe invasion of decayed western beliefs and reversed messages of the market economy.The forth section:On the basis of the former sections, this section mainly probes into the solutions of severe deficiency of adolescents’ filial piety from four aspects, i.e., individual, family, school and the society. |
