Helping behavior is a crucial manifestation of young children prosocial behavior, and is also a vital process to achieve children social development and socialization. Helping others,actively,not only bail out someone with benevolent behavior, but also help children themselves to establish and maintain harmonious relationships, and to promote development of psychics of the children healthily.A model kindergarten in Wuhan was selected for this research,which contains 100 children chosen randomly from three classes of junior,medium and senior.Natural observation and investigation methods were utilized to understand characteristics of helping behavior of 3-6 years old children and to probe into causes of behavior development.We collected the data,processed it with some methods and drew a conclusion as following:1,Helping behavior of 3-6 years old children develops rapidly with age,apparently up to a higher speed in the class of senior.2,Generally, male children helping behavior is higher than female children obviously;but there are differences between boys and girls in different ages.3,The occurrence of children helping behavior is absolutely various in different situation:it happened majorly in life situation, seldom in teaching and game situations.The occurrence of children helping behavior is associated with ages,and is not related to gender.4,The object of children helping is different:teacher is the major part, and fellow second.And the frequence which they tend to help the fellow of sex identity is bigger than different sex.The object of children helping is different in their different ages and different situations,but there is no difference in gender.5,The features of children helping type are various,and there exists marked difference in the proportion of each type.Passive-neutral is a predominant type,followed by the type of proactive,passive active,active neutral,and passive type are ranked in third,fourth,fifth.The type of children helping is different with ages,situations and objects of helping,and it is not associated to gender.6,A variety of strategies for children are adopted to help others,but the exertion of strategy is different. They first use physical assistance,followed by language remind,however the strategy of material assistance,seeking authoritative and psychical assistance are accepted seldom. The strategy of children helping is different with ages,situations and objects of helping,with no relationship to gender.7,The feedback of children helping behavior include neutral,positive and passive facets.Neutral feedback was obtained in most cases,positive feedback secondly, passive feedback rarely.There are differences in the proportion of all kinds of feedback.The feedback of children helping behavior is different with ages,situations and objects of helping,with no relation to gender.On the basis of the research,some education suggests are proposed as followings: 1,create a favorable environment for childre;2,encourage children to help each other;3,offer more opportunities to performance for each children; 4,give children appropriate positive feedback.
