With the progress of China’s higher education reform in recent years and a subsequent surge of college graduates, the contradiction between employment market demand and college graduates’ need for finding a job has no signs of getting better. This means a more intense competition and a thus increasing pressure in job application. Independent colleges in Gansu, an less developed inland province in China, are all founded not long before and not much experienced in college management. Compared with those public universities,independent colleges finish their enrollment in the third round Plan of National Undergraduate Students Enrollment, and this makes it even tougher for graduates in independent colleges to apply for a suitable job. This leads to a new change in their employment. Graduates’ views on job application means their career ideals and goals in the future and affects greatly their values, views to life and the world. A study of independent college students’ views on job application has very important practical meaning in college career guidance and the building of students’ utilitarian, forward-looking and positive attitude in job selection and application.The present thesis is an survey of students’ job application viewpoints and career guidance in the five independent colleges of Gansu province.the thesis analyzed graduates’ difficulties in job application and problems exists in these colleges’ job application guidance courses, and some counter-measures are proposed for future improvement.The present thesis consists five parts. The first part describes its research background,significance and status quo of related research in this field. Questions to be answered as well as methods applied are also introduced in this part; The second part defines concepts of employment, employment, job application and career guidance and analyzed the main content and possible methods used in career guidance; Part three deals with data analysis and problem location of a questionnaire-based investigation of all the five independent colleges in Gansu Province; The fourth part elaborates causal factors of these problems from perspectives of family, college and society; The concluding part points out that efforts should be made in College students’ self-education family education, college guidance and administrative guidance to seek for betterment of the present dilemma in college graduates’ job application.
