Based on theories of career maturity, career anchor and human capital, this paper studies professional development situation and willingness of students in independent colleges by surveys and individual interviews in students of Shandong University of Finance&Economics, and explores the factors which affect the willingness of students’ career development from those aspects such as individuals, schools, social environment and career maturity.This study finds that:1.Career maturity of students in independent colleges is above the middle level, but they are lack of rational knowledge in future career orientation and generally have high career expectations.2.Male students’ career maturity is higher than female students’; three grades, career maturity mean score descending order of:the undergraduate third grade> the undergraduate fourth grade> specialist third grade. And the specialist third grade career maturity was significantly lower than the third-year undergraduate career maturity.3.Independent college students have higher expectations and a positive attitude for their own businesses. And also, the views of students start this factor to produce a positive effect on career maturity. Students who have more positive view of these views, have higher vocational maturity.4.Career maturity of students who have part-time job is much higher than those have no related experience; and a part-time internship experience produce a positive effect on career maturity. Students who have part-time internship experience is higher than the others who have no related experience in career maturity.5.In career planning, the majority (over70%) of independent college students have planned for their future career after the career guidance education in school. And also, the level of planning career produce a positive effect on career maturity.more clearly career planning, more higher career maturity.6.The curriculums and career guidance education of independent college have an important influence on the career development of students. The curriculum system and related guidance activities of independent college is not enough, can not satisfy all students’needs, and the acceptance level of students is low.The students hope to increase the proportion of the practical aspects in teaching, make the professional education face the community-oriented and employment, enhance the timeliness and practicality of expertise in order to satisfy the needs of the independent college students’ career development.7.The study confirmed, individual differences, school education and social environment have an impact on the career development of the students. To refine and improve the existing vocational guidance system for independent colleges should focus on that three aspects. Independent college students should correct there attitudes, strengthen career planning learning、understanding and self-evaluation, establish a reasonable and opening career values and improve the level and ability of their own career development. Based on the characteristics of independent college students, the school should strengthen student career development planning guidance, enhance the professional development and students’ vocational education, improve the professional quality of the students, to promote student career development. From the perspective of the social environment, should improve communication and coordination mechanism between the college, employer, Human Resources and Social Security Department, find problems and lack, concentrate existing resources, and further improve the existing vocational guidance system for independent colleges, optimize the external environment for the development of independent college students, and strive to explore a suitable syetem for independent college student career development service system.
