Sociological Study On The Career Development Of Independent College Students

This paper studies the career development of independent college students based on theories of career maturity, career anchors, rational choices and human resources through questionnaires and spot interviews to students from Wuhan University of Technology Huaxia College and Wuhan University of Science and Technology Zhongnan Branch. It probes into students' cognition of their career developing abilities, career expectation, career orientation inclination, career maturity evaluation and influence from factors of students, colleges and the society. Finally it puts forward the prepositional policy of improving the career development of independent college students. It argues that:1. Students in independent colleges lack rational cognition of career orientation, and they have high career expectations but their career maturity is on the low side.2. Students in independent colleges have positive attitudes towards starting up a business, and their various expectations show great differences in aspect of career maturity.3. Curricula arrangments, speciality development and employment guidance have great influnce on studnets' career development. Students expect to satisfy their need's of career development through enhancing practical teaching, social adapatation of the speciality and employment skills.4. Professional qualification certificates become an important factor in students's career development, and the quantity of certificates vary evidently in career maturity.5. Rigorous employment situation becomes a major social barrier for independent college students. The sudents' self-identity to severe competition differs in career maturity.6. In order to establish a perfect independent college students -career-development system, it should be considered from the three angles of students, colleges and society. To be more particular, for student side, it requires enhancing students' career planning and actively participating in career paractice to improve their personal career developing abilities; From the colleges aspect, it needs to strengthen speciality building, students' career education and to advance the quality of talent cultivation.; As to the social aspect, it calls for the government, enterprises and human resources market to joint to establish the independent college students -career-development system and improve the environment of students' career development.
