With the development of the curriculum reform, the Mathematics curriculum standard for general senior high school is released in April2003. According to it, the edit for new mathematics textbooks of high school is proceeding in succession. Under the guidance and the affluence of the new standard and the policy of diversification of teaching material, different versions of the textbooks which are compiled by those editors who hold different comprehension of the new standard are printed, such as PEP edition, BNUP edition, HUNAN edition, JSJY edition and so on. The editors of all the versions take the new standard as their guidance when they compiled the textbooks, however, what is the similarities and differences among them? What are the respective characteristics of the textbooks? How do the regional administrators of education select a version of the textbooks which is suitable for local students? How do the teachers use the textbooks to teach on the basic of knowing the Writing intentions? In order to deal with these problems, a good understanding of relevant versions of textbooks is a must.Based on the above issues, PEP A edition and B edition are chose to be the research objects of this thesis. The main purpose is to study the similarities and differences between the two versions, and compare and analyze them from five aspects-the key features, frame structure, body content, system of helping reading and educational functions by using literature analysis, content analysis and comparative approach. The respective features, the advantages and disadvantages of the two objects are concluded after the comparison. According to the conclusion combined personal thought of the textbooks, several opinions and advices are given at the end of the thesis. Hoping these research findings can be reference information for those who are working at the frontline, and helping them use the textbooks more sufficiently and reasonably to teach.
