With the progress of science and development of economy, the level of people’s lives has improved a lot from the perspective of the major population, which meanwhile causes a series of physical problems. Aerobics and yoga are currently popular physical fitness programs, and it’s efficient for people to improve their condition through these exercises. This article is focused on the characteristics and exercise value of aerobics and yoga, and mainly uses the methods of literature analysis, questionnaire survey, interviewing, contrast and mathematical statistics. Furthermore, the article contrasts and analyzes many aspects of these two exercise programs, including the cultural foundations, the current situations of spread, the characteristics of the programs and the exercise value; it digs their similarities and differences,thus offering those who participating in these exercise the proper guidance and assistant. The main conclusions are as follows.1. Aerobics and yoga are both generating during the process of pursuing fitness. Aerobics come into being at the western cultural background, which are influenced by the worldview of the separate of nature and man, and the western human personalities and properties; and it has the certain characteristics of fitness, energy and pursuing the perfect. Nevertheless yoga generates within the background of eastern culture, and is influenced by the view of the oneness of nature and man, which reveals the features of soft, stretching and the balance of mind and body.2. Certain studies show that the ratio of men and women who participating in these exercises is quite imbalance. Also, the participators of aerobics are getting younger, for whom the music and the atmosphere are the main attractions;On the other hand, the participators of yoga, who focus on relieving the pressure, taking precautions against illness, and assisting in remedy, reveal a balanced age distribution.3. Aerobics and yoga are two different kinds of sports respectively featured in activity and tranquility, as well as other different kinds of characteristics. The music of aerobics merges numerous types and elements, has a lively rhythm; aerobics is more concerned about the body configuration and physical agility, and mainly focuses on the exercise of body motion. Yoga music is featured on the soft and natural light music or chanting. When each pose reaches the limit, the participator stays steady, pays attention to the breath and diet, and pursues the oneness of mind and body.4. Studies have shown that, through training, people have gained certain kinds of effects and values concerning the aspects of physical fitness, bodybuilding, and psychological health. In the respect of physical fitness, aerobics has brought obvious improvements in the strength of muscle, the agility and the sports coordination. Yoga improves a lot in the flexibility of the knuckles and the balance. In the respect of bodybuilding, most people have a trend of decrease in weight, and have improved a lot in the body posture. In the aspects of psychological health, the participators have made obvious progresses mentally; and all related factors have obvious and highly obvious differences compared with the regular models nationwide.5. People who participate in both aerobics and yoga have gained a lot more than those who only take one of these two exercises in the respect of physical fitness, bodybuilding, and psychological health.
