Chinese ancient poetry is the representative of Chinese literature. It is included in highschool teaching. Appreciation of ancient poetry is compulsory in the college entranceexamination. What’s more, it is on the highest level in high school Chinese reading ability,and many students can’t solve it successfully. With the marks increasing in this part,appreciation of ancient poetry is growing more and more difficult. Thus, higherrequirements are put forward on ancient poetry teaching.What should we do as a Chinese teacher? The writer has a little experience on theresearch into ancient poetry teaching and appreciation of ancient poems since teaching. Atfirst, the Exam Description and College entrance examination papers put forward therequirements of college entrance examination on ancient poetry teaching. Then throughquestionnaires, the status of the teaching of ancient poetry is learned about, and teachingproblems are found and analyzed. On this basis, ancient poetry teaching is linked toimproving students’ ability to appreciating the ancient poetry, and students can understandthe poets by grasping the title of the poets, focusing on the grammar, combining with notesand key words and reading repeatedly according to recognition law.Thus, students’ appreciation is developed in the following ways, such as reflecting life,understanding the image and catching imagery clozely, tasting words, guiding thedistinguish and judge, mastering skills, reviewing the poets; and writing the appreciation.Based on the college entrance examination, teachers play the dominant roles andgradually develop students’ appreciation of ancient poetry and humanities, enhancing theability to respond to the college entrance examination.
