At present, the world has entered the post-crisis era, many countries are working on overcoming the crisis through technological innovation and development of new industries in order to achieve a new round of economic growth. In this crucial period, the party central committee and the state council point out the promotion of the independent innovation as a breakthrough in the rapid economic development. The national medium and long-term education reform and development plan outline (2010-2020), which released in February2010, make clear that higher education should cultivate top-notch innovative talents. In order to improve the innovation ability of college students and cultivate innovative talents with high quality, this paper takes students from Northwest University for Nationalities as the research subjects to study the cultivation of students’innovative ability on journal of chemical education. for the following training students’innovative ability in chemical education to provide theoretical support. It can provide theoretical support for the further study on cultivating students’innovative ability.Through a lot of the issues associated with the literature, the author understands the present situation of students’innovative ability in chemical education. Combined with professional features chemicals, the author designs the innovative practice of questionnaire from five factores:the sense of innovation, curriculum, teaching methods, examination and evaluation methods, extra-curricular activities. The subjects of the survey are freshmen and juniors majoring Chemical Englishneering and Technology in Northwest University for Nationalities. The purpose of the questionnaire investigates the existent problems of students’innovative ability in chemical education universities. The author wants to find out main factors to restrict the develop of students’innonative ability in chenistry education and attempts to explore concrete ways to develop their creative ability in chemistry education through learning the successful cases of chemical education at home and abroad.By the survey, the author finds out the current chemistry teaching in colleges and universities has the following main issues:the idea of teaching and learning problems, chemistry curriculum needs to be optimized and improved, imperfect innovation of extracurricular activities, a single teaching mode and method, inadequate evaluation mechanism and unable to play the positive role of experimental course.To solve the above problems, the author proposes specific strategies and adopts the effective ways to cultivate students’ innovation ability by improving the curriculum system, optimizing the chemical content, building the chemical innovation base, implementing the tiered chemistry teaching, constructing the multi-appraisal mechanism and adopping the multiple teaching methods. As a case study of the synthesis of ethyl acetate on the cultivation of students’ innovation ability.
