Critical thinking is a kind of thinking which is reflective and requires high standards.It is the foundation of creative thinking. In the last three decades critical thinking hasbeen highly valued in western countries, particularly in the United States of America. InChina scholars and researchers have begun to realize the importance of critical thinkingsince the new century, and a series of researches and practice have been carried out.A lot of content of high school geography learning requires students to use criticalthinking. The Ordinary high school geography curriculum standard (experiment) calls forthe development of students’ critical thinking and creative thinking clearly.In view ofthis, this article uses the literature research, questionnaire survey method, case methodand other methods, aims to explore ways for the cultivation of the critical thinking ingeography teaching.This paper includes the following five parts:The first part introduces the research background, research significance and researchstatus at home and abroad.The second part illustrates the characteristics of the concept of critical thinking,critical thinking and spirit.The third part investigates the current situation and influencing factors of highschool geography critical thinking, and on the basis of the result analysis of the factorsaffecting the development of critical thinking in geography teaching.The fourth part put forward the cultivation of critical thinking in geography teachingmethods, including the way of critical thinking training, and combined with the case toexplore the specific way of cultivation of critical thinking in geography teaching.The fifth part of the research in this paper, the conclusion that discussed in thispaper, we study the shortcomings, puts forward further research prospect.This paper draws the following conclusion:(1) based on the aspects of definition, it is concluded that critical thinking ingeography learning (i.e., think geography critical thinking): is the concept of in geographic study, to be able to take the initiative to find the geographical problems, usingthe geography knowledge, analysis, judgment, reasoning, reasoned conclusion, andaccording to the thought of clarity, accuracy, relevance and adequacy criteria toconstantly monitor and adjust self thinking process.(2) through the high school geography critical thinking training situation andrestricting factors, found that high school geography development of critical thinking isnot enough, the investigation and analysis of the traditional concept of teachers andstudents were the major influencing factors, traditional evaluation methods, familyenvironment, self-centered thinking, the importance of geography, etc.(3) the cultivation of critical thinking in geography teaching ways mainly haveimmersed method and infusion method. The former exerts a subtle cultivation of criticalthinking in geography teaching, which explicitly to introduce students to the generalprinciples of critical thinking, and ask the students to apply critical thinking in geographylearning.
